Dr. Corredor believes in a "Comprehensive Approach" to Dentistry.
Our philosophy at our Galleria dental practice involves a comprehensive evaluation of the entire chewing system using the principles of "Bioesthetics", the study or theory of the beauty of living things in their natural forms and functions. This approach regards the teeth, jaw joints, bones, nerves, muscles, lips, tongue, mouth and the face as a collective system rather than just individual parts. In a healthy chewing system, all these components work in harmony in a nondestructive manner, free of disease, pain and trauma. Equilibrium between these structures allows for the creation of a natural and youthful looking smile. It also promotes the maintenance of a healthy chewing system that will provide a lifetime of optimal comfort, function and beauty.
Our belief in this "Comprehensive Approach" to Dentistry is based on years of scientific research and observation of healthy natural dentitions where little or no dental repair was needed to preserve the teeth. After exhaustive studies of elderly people who still have their original healthy functioning teeth, Dr. Robert L. Lee discovered that proper alignment of the jaw joint (TMJ) was a critical factor. In these mouths the jaw joints were stable, muscles were relaxed and pain-free, and the teeth were practically unworn. These healthy Chewing Systems result in exceptionally beautiful smiles and youthful faces, functional bites, comfortable joints and muscles, and essentially trouble-free, long-lasting healthy mouths.
Put simply, our brain is programmed to ensure that all of our teeth have even pressure and contact. When teeth are not in their proper form and position, the brain compensates by moving the position of the jaw. Over time this will lead to tooth wear, bite misalignment, TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder) and muscle pain. You may not even be aware of it but you may be exhibiting some of the signs and symptoms of a bite dysfunction. Worn teeth, cracked or broken teeth, sore or stiff jaw muscles, facial pain, pain with chewing, loose teeth, grinding, receding gums, notching of teeth, uncomfortable bite, shifting bite or clicks or pops in the joint are all symptoms of a bite problem. Like heart disease or diabetes, it can take many years before you become aware of the damage that is occurring because many of these signs and symptoms seem unrelated to a bite problem.
Diagnosing the cause of tooth wear and other chewing system problems and not just treating the symptoms is the foundation of comprehensive dentistry. Using biologic form as the model for dental care, Dr. Corredor at our Galleria practice can address the root cause of these problems to provide a stable jaw joint position. Correcting the causes of tooth wear, bite misalignment, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) and muscle pain, restores harmony and balance to the chewing system. Correct tooth form leads to correct function of the entire chewing system and, as a natural outcome, pain-free beautiful healthy teeth.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms of a bite dysfunction or think you might be experiencing any TMJ disorder symptoms, it is important to see treatment as soon as possible. Call our office at (713) 963-9191 in the Galleria to see what treatments are available.
